Butler, Lanz & Wagler, L.C. is a Registered Investment Advisor located in Overland Park, Kansas - a suburb of Kansas City, Missouri. We are registered with the Securities Commissioners of both the states of Missouri and Kansas. The firm was established in 1998 by Chris Butler, Tim Lanz, and Lucas Wagler, all three coming from the stockbrokerage and financial planning industries.
Chris Butler co-manages both the BLW Growth and BLW Fixed-income portfolios for the firm and is a registered represenative for Brookstone Securities, Inc. He's been quoted in several local newspapers and magazines and is considered a local authority on alternative investment strategies, the management of bonds, and the business cycle. With over 20 years in the investment management business, Mr. Butler is very active in adult investment education, giving several lectures per year on a variety of subjects. He can be heard regularly on the "KCMO Morning Show" weekday mornings discussing investment markets and breaking economic news, both locally and nationally.
Every Saturday morning on KCMO Talk Radio 710, he hosts "Capitalist Pigs," a show about investment markets and how to use the business cycle to make better investment decisions.Originally from Olathe, Kansas, Mr. Butler has a BA in Political Science from the University of Kansas, an MBA from Baker University and an MA in Economics from the University of Missouri at Kansas City. He is currently seeking a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Missouri at Columbia.
Timothy E. Lanz is BLW’s operations manager, managing the firm's accounting procedures, trading and overseeing the daily tasks necessary for the smooth running of an investment management operation. In addition, Mr. Lanz is also the co-manager of the BLW Growth Portfolio.
Mr. Lanz is married to Darcy and they have two sons, Beau and Cole. They also have a German Short-Haired Pointer named, appropriately enough, Happy. They reside in Olathe where Tim enjoys hunting, fishing and restoring classic cars. Mr. Lanz is originally from Louisburg, Kansas. He received three Bachelor of Science degrees from Kansas State University: International Business, Management and Marketing.
Lucas B. Wagler provides market analysis and trading for the firm.
Mr. Wagler is married to Jennifer and they have three children, Carter, Presley and Holden. The Wagler family lives in Overland Park and enjoys boating, tennis and golf.
Mr. Wagler is originally from Hutchinson, Kansas and obtained an Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Arts from Hutchinson Community College. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas where his major was Marketing. Mr. Wagler played basketball for both institutions on scholarship.
Patrick S. Berch co-manages the BLW Fixed-income portfolio and oversees all aspect of marketing for the firm.
Originally form the California Bay Area, Mr. Berch is married to his best friend, Jessica, and they both enjoy spending time together at home cooking, gardening and playing with their Golden Retriever, Finn.
Mr. Berch holds a series 65 license and is working towards the completion of the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies from the Master’s College.
