How is BLW Different from Financial Planners?
Financial planning consists of five disciplines - retirement planning, estate planning, tax planning, insurance planning and investment planning. Butler, Lanz & Wagler is not a financial planning firm. We specialize in the management of investments only. However, we do work with area professionals who specialize in those other areas. Butler, Lanz & Wagler is a Registered Investment Advisor. As such, we are allowed to charge a percentage fee to manage the investments of our clients. What this means to the client is that if your investments go down in value, so does our fee. If your investments go up in value, so does our fee. Therefore, fee-based advisors have more of a monetary incentive to help you. And because the monetary incentive of the advisor is in synch with the monetary objective of the client, the fee-based investment advisor makes it their business to understand how and why markets behave the way they do.
How is BLW Qualified to Manage My Investments?
First, we should probably mention that while Butler, Lanz & Wagler, L.C. is a Registered Investment Advisor, registered in the states of Kansas and Missouri, this does not imply that any state has passed judgment on the firm's ability to manage money. No state approves or disapproves of our investment management practice, style, abilities or investment philosophy.
However, Butler, Lanz & Wagler has been managing investments for clients since 1998 and Chris Butler has over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry. He has been a stockbroker, managed a stockbrokerage branch office and has worked for a no-load mutual fund family. He has an MBA, and MA in Economics and is currently working toward a Ph.D. in Economics.
What Are Your Fees For Managing My Account?

Does BLW Have a Minimum Amount They Will Manage?
We do not currently have a minimum. However, we are restricted in what we can do by the amount we have been given to manage.
